Armed Forces Day and USMA Alumni Salute U.S. Military Academy Concert Band
The United States Military Academy Concert Band will present a concert on Sunday, May 20 at 3pm in the Eisenhower Hall Ballroom. The concert is entitled Armed Forces Day and USMA Alumni Salute and will honor returning alumni of West Point. It will feature the music of Donald Grantham, Philip Egner, John Williams, and many others. This concert is free and open to the public.
Sergeant Major Robert Smither will perform Paul Murtha's Hellcat Concerto for solo bugle and concert band. The concerto loosely outlines a day in the life of a Hellcat bugler, beginning with rudimental bugle calls and ending with hot jazz.
Sergeant Major Rick Gerard will narrate Harold Walters' Duty, Honor, Country. The text for the piece was written by General Douglas MacArthur. The piece is a musical representation of the ideas by which West Point cadets and officers attempt to live.
Please allow extra travel time for the 100% vehicle and photo I.D. inspection at Stony Lonesome and Thayer gates. Due to changing security requirements at West Point, call the Academy Band's hotline at 845-938- 2617, or check www.usma.edu/ special before leaving for the concert.
