PVMS Students are Welcoming War Veterans Home
Putnam Valley parent Nancy Bierhoff and her Girl Scout Troop 2251 (all ninth graders) are working on a project to deliver letters to the soldiers returning from combat. Ms. Bierhoff contacted the Putnam Valley Middle School (PVMS) administration, and the school coordinated several teachers (Jodi Sepa and Janet Bowe, 5th grade and Dan Gallo, 8th grade) who volunteered to have their respective students write welcome home letters. This is an example of the letters that the troop has collected from the Middle School students:
"Dear returning soldier,
Thank you for all the things that you have done for this country, your family, friends and so many other people that you don't even know. Although a lot has happened, I'm very glad that you have returned home safely to resume your life again. You have risked everything & had left behind so many things that you love to protect America. Because of you and so many other brave soldiers, Americans are able to live their life like it has always been.
Ms. Bierhoff says that the troop will continue collecting letters from as many people possible until the end of the war in Iraq. The troop has plans to start distributing the letters in June to soldiers from Walter Reed Army Medical Center, and, says Ms. Bierhoff, "we will have a local welcome home party soon. All will be invited!"
