Cartoonist Chris Duffy Visits Haldane
Chris Duffy, a cartoonist and an editor for Nickelodeon magazine, visited Haldane third grade students to talk about his work. Mr. Duffy has written comic books starring Scooby- Doo, Superman, Batman, Rugrats, Jimmy Neutron, Iron Man and Dr. Strange. He has read well over 30,000 comic books in his life and owns more then 5,000 comics.
Mr. Duffy shared pages of his sketchbook and other cartoonists' sketchbooks to show how ideas can evolve and "pop". He talked to the students about one frame comics or gags. A highlight of his presentation was a 3-D comic strip that he drew on a smartboard and the children viewed through 3-D glasses.
Everyone enjoyed Mr. Duffy's presentation, especially his son Peter. Many thanks go to Mr. Duffy for sharing his talent with the children and to the Haldane PTA for organizing the event to support PARP (Parents as Reading Partners).
