Andrew C. Revkin Speaks at Haldane
Haldane fifth grade students were treated to a lecture and power-point presentation by journalist Andy C. Revkin. He wrote The North Pole Was Here - Puzzles and Perils at the Top of the World. Mr. Revkin was the first New York Times reporter ever to file stories and photographs from the floating sea ice at the top of the world. The expedition of climatologists and oceanographers are determined to solve the mysteries of Artic warming. They melted a hole through eight feet of ice and dove into the twentyeight degree ocean below.
Mr. Revkin's adventures, supplemented by New York Times articles, capture the saga of the once and future North Pole. He celebrates the first explorers who sailed north and were never seen again to today's scientists. His documentation of the journey to find ways to control global warming is dramatic and eye-opening.
