Lisikatos Whiffs 16 in Blue Devils Win Over Dover
by Ray Gallagher

8th-grade sensation Chelsea Lisikatos winds up to deliver one of her patented pitches
Remember the name Chelsea Lisikatos. Folks in and about the PCN&R region will be hearing about her for quite some time. As a seventh grader last year, the windmilling righthander led the Haldane Blue Devils to the Class C title game. As an eighth-grader still learning the ropes along the varsity scene, she and her teammates have coined the phrase "Unfinished Business" as their season-long mantra. The Blue Devils looked like a team on a mission during Monday's 9-4 win over Dover and Friday's 6-4 victory over Albertus Magnus in the opening round of the Beacon Dawgfest Tournament.

Haldane (5-5) was forced to settle for second place at Beacon after falling 9-0 in Saturday's title tilt to the host Bulldogs (12-3), who were riding an eight-game win streak as of press time. Lisikatos was named to the All-Tournament team along with MVP Megan Golembiewski of Beacon.

Beacon meant business from the start, tearing off five runs over the first two frames off Lisikatos on a day when the Blue Devils were overmatched by a tough Class A foe. Still, games like those will prepare Lisikatos and the Blue Devils for the Class C tourney down the road. She was up to the task against Dover, whiffing 16 Dragons and allowing just five hits. She did some damage at the plate, too, going 3-3 with two runs, two ribs and a pair of doubles. Junior backstop Cassie Barcavage was gripping and ripping, delivering a home run, a double and two RBI. Lily Rubino tripled home a run and scored once.

Lisikatos put a bench under 10 free-swinging Falcons via the K-route in the win over Magnus. She and Barcavage added two RBI apiece. Irena Impellittirie (2-3) added a run and a rib while Jen Lombardo (2-3) tripled and scored.

Washingtonville defeated the winless Haldane by a 12-10 count in the consolation round of the Dawgfest Baseball Tournament. Beacon shut down the Blue Devils in the opening round by a 9- 1 count.
