Putnam Valley Middle School Receives State Recognition for Second Consecutive Year
On May 1st Edward J. Hallisey, Principal of Putnam Valley Middle School (PVMS) received notification from Richard P. Mills, Commissioner of Education for New York State, that PVMS has been recognized as one of New York State's 271 Title I middle and high schools that have met the criteria for designation as "high performing/gap closing."
The Commissioner's letter read, in part, "Your school has been so designated because it met all applicable State standards for English language arts and math during 2005-2006 school year and also made Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) in English language arts, mathematics, science and/or graduation rate during the 2004- 2005 and 2005-2006 school years. You and your entire school community are to be commended for leading New York forward to accomplish our dual goals of increasing student achievement while closing the gap in student performance." In celebration of this achievement,
the PVMS Assistant Principal,
Dr David Fine, will attend a recognition ceremony and focused forum to be held In Brooklyn on May 14th. The theme of the forum is "Learning from Leaders."
PVMS Principal Hallisey had this to say: "This is the second consecutive year we have received this honor. We are extremely proud of our students and staff for their continued accomplishments." Mr. Hallisey continued, "We can attribute our success to a number of different initiatives that we have been involved with over the past 3 years. We use data to help inform and drive our instruction and close any gaps in our curriculum. We have used the TechPaths program to help coordinate our curriculum K-12, and we have introduced laptops for all students into the 7th and 8th grade. Our hardworking, dedicated, and incredible staff has worked hard to benefit all students. Their efforts are being recognized."
