| As part of an addiction counselor wellness workshop at St. Christopher's Inn sponsored by the Hudson Valley-Catskill Coalition of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Providers, Karen Carpenter-Palumbo, Commissioner of the New York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services (OASAS) spoke of the work that needs to be done to best serve the 1.8 million New Yorkers needing care for drug and alcohol addiction. "Together, we can improve the system," she said, encouraging attendees to send feedback about their successes in the field as well as obstacles encountered in providing treatment.
: Ms. Carpenter-Palumbo toured the shelter and clinic services at St. Christopher's Inn speaking with staff and residents about their experiences with recovery. "St. Christopher's Inn deserves recognition for its committed service to poor, needy, homeless and chemically dependent individuals," the commissioner said. "Through its certified chemical dependence services, St. Christopher's Inn has consistently demonstrated positive outcomes in serving one of the most difficult populations. I am very pleased to have the opportunity to visit with the staff here and build on our common goal of providing New Yorkers the best services in addiction treatment.".
