Memorial Day Weekend Activities in Philipstown

Just a short reminder to all residents of Philipstown that on Monday, May 28, 2007, Memorial Day, all deceased veterans of our Community will be honored with our annual Memorial Day Parade. The parade will start promptly at 9am . All participants should arrive for the parade line up by 8:45am at the Municipal Building, Main Street Cold Spring.

On Sunday May 27, at 11am, there will be a special Memorial Service for Veterans who were lost at sea. This tribute will take place at the Parrott Gun Memorial located at the Cold Spring riverfront. All Philipstown residents are invited to attend this solemn service.

The second year of a Garden Of Remembrance on the Great Lawn of St. Mary's Episcopal Church will offer the community the opportunity to memorialize their deceased veterans throughout Memorial Day Week. Sponsored by St. Mary's with support from the Philipstown Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion, the project will benefit all veterans.

Prior to Memorial Day, veterans will place 1000 American Flags on the gravesites of deceased Veterans. For more information on Memorial Day activities please consult the May 14 2007 issue of the Putnam County News.

Each year on Memorial Day the names of all those Veterans who were killed in action in all the wars is read in remembrance of their ultimate sacrifice. In addition, the names of veterans who have passed away since Memorial Day 2006 and are buried in the Cold Spring Cemetery are also read.. If anyone has also lost a veteran since that time who is buried in another Cemetery, please notify Phil Schatzle at 265-2506.
