Sam Davis' Tactics are Unacceptable Dear Editor:
I am writing in regard to a subject that has been the subject of several news articles and letters to the editor. The situation in Putnam Valley with the current Supervisor Sam Davis.
I have attended several Town Board Meetings over the past 2 years and most recently on 16 May 07. As time as past I have observed Mr. Davis continue to press his views in every forum available to him, which is okay, everyone should have their say.
But the most recent Town Board meeting and some other actions taken recently was a bit concerning to me. It is clear where Mr. Davis stands in most of his views, but I have begun to observe his attempts to bar others from their right to voice their views and using undue influence of his position to attempt to dictate what our local laws are and how they should be applied and interpreted.
At the Town Board meeting, citizens were voicing their opinions and views on a subject of great debate within Putnam Valley. One in which Sam Davis has actually been arrested in regard too, for trespassing. During the meeting Mr. Davis allowed citizens with his view to speak in the public forum, then when someone would begin to speak against his view, Mr. Davis suddenly declared the meeting to be over. Then amazingly, reopened the meeting when another citizen with his views wanted to speak, they were allowed to do so. Basically, Mr. Davis did not want to allow people to speak in public, on record, in regard to anything he does not agree with. That is not acceptable.
It is concerning to me the continued stance and escalated tactics Mr. Davis has taken against anyone that does not subscribe to his own personal views. Barring an intervention from some authority above our own local authority, I fear the only solution will come at the polls. As time passes and Mr. with his attempts to "rule" Putnam Valley, I fear we will eventually see almost kamikaze like political actions taken by Mr. Davis. I will predict we will be recovering from his actions for many years to come. Sadly, the last half of this year will most certainly be one of continued escalation, increased legal costs to the town (and as such, us the residents), and in all probability the revelation of Mr. Davis's inappropriate use of his position in ways we were unaware of in the past.
As the saying goes, if you see one roach, there are hundreds more you don't see. And if the actions he has taken in the past in the public forum are like those roaches, I fear what we can't see, even more.
