Are We Setting a Good Example?
Dear Editor:
These opposites come to mind: Destructive vs. constructive, taking lives vs. saving lives, misconception vs. reality, ignorance vs. understanding, assumption vs. truth, war vs. peace.
We fear the future we can't predict and take a lot for granted, letting others in authority make decisions for us, believing they know what they're doing.
Those we voted for should work to benefit us instead of making things worse for us to benefit themselves. Our gullibility has cost us in countless ways.
We need to learn about other's cultural and religious beliefs and practices before trying to impose ours on others. If our leaders misbehave and we remain apathetic and ignorant, how can we expect others to embrace our ways?
Desire for money, power and material things appears to take precedence over all the good things in our lives that money can't buy. Are you missing out trying to acquire it? What would you be doing if it weren't for money?
We have a responsibility to encourage our little ones to take an interest in their world and teach them proper etiquette for both here and abroad to avoid awkwardness and embarrassment.
Young children mimic us. If we are loving, kind, observant, mindful, self-reliant, compassionate, respectful, attentive and helpful through our own actions, these attributes will become a natural part of them. We have to ask ourselves, "Are we setting a good example?"
