Outdoor Fun at Stony Kill Farm

The world around us has come alive. Join us at Stony Kill Farm Environmental Education Center for some fun in the sun and shade. These programs are fit for the whole family.

Saturday, June 2 from 10am through 3pm - Splash the Otter's Birthday Party and Family Fishing Day. Enjoy a morning of fishing in our farm pond (poles and worms provided for those who need them). Children can have fun making colorful fish prints as they learn some fascinating fishy facts! In the afternoon, meet Splash and find out all about life as a river otter.

Saturday, June 9 at 10am - 300 Years of Land Stewardship at Stony Kill. Tour the Manor House and the farmstead buildings and grounds to find out how this land was used and has changed since the early days of the Verplanck family at Stony Kill.

Saturday, June 16 at 10am - Life in the Hudson River. Discover the amazing diversity of creatures in the Hudson River. Use a seine net to sample fish, crabs and other aquatic life at Little Stony Point (just north of the Village of Cold Spring). Call 845-831-8780, ext 300 for directions and more information.

Saturday, June 23 at 10am - Wilderness Skills and Native People. Experience how Native Americans made a living from and a life close to the land. See demonstrations and try your own hand at fire starting, cordage making, wild teas and more.

Saturday, June 30 at 10am - Life Under a Log. Discover the surprising world of creepycrawlies under logs in the forest. Take a "microhike" and experience the world from a centipede's point of view.

Stony Kill Farm Environmental Education Center is operated by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation and is located on Route 9D in Wappingers Falls, two miles north of the Newburgh-Beacon Bridge. The seven miles of trails and grounds are open to the public from sunrise to sunset for hiking and nature enjoyment.
