Garrison School Kids Were "Feelin' Good" at Their Spring Concert
On May 15, 2007 the Garrison School kindergarten through third grade students participated in their spring concert entitled "Feelin' Good!" This concert was centered on the school wide theme for the year, "Healthy bodies, healthy minds, and healthy world". There have been many activities throughout the year that have been connected to this theme including an eighth grade Walk-a-thon to raise money for the 8th grade trip, a charity and a class gift, Eco-kids after school club, recess and cafeteria student committees and the school's Wellness Committee. The teachers have even been enjoying a yoga class taught by Lisa Matkin.
For the concert the students performed songs about keeping their minds and bodies healthy. Kindergarteners sang the Body Boogie and Lunch while first graders sang Rules for Living and More than a Muscle. The second grade classes danced their way through the Exercise Tango and wore Egyptian and food costumes for the Food Pyramid Song. Our third graders sang a rock style song about being a Couch Potato and ended with Life is Good in a swing style. The final song, "Feelin' Good!" was sung by all the students and enveloped the whole idea of taking care of yourself in body and mind. Accompaniment for the concert was provided by talented musicians/ parents. Many thanks to Art Labriola, Pete Rundquist, Fred Martin and students Lindy Labriola and Lianna Culp on violins.
The song, "Feelin' Good!" was also the spark that started the idea of designing t-shirts for the students to wear for the concert as a reminder to take care of their bodies so that they always feel good! Third grader Emma Suits created the shooting star design on the t-shirts. Funds to purchase the t-shirts were donated by Garrison's PTA and Ms. Patty Scecina. Ms. Scecina donated the profits from the fall High School Talent Show to the Garrison and Haldane School Music Departments.
