Father, Son Accused of Harassing Putnam Valley Girl

Putnam County Sheriff Donald B. Smith reports the May 24, 2007 arrests of a father and son from the Town of Putnam Valley on harassment and criminal contempt charges.

According to the Sheriff, at about 6:41pm on May 24th, Deputy Sheriffs Luigi Osso and Jason Quick were dispatched to a gas station located on Oscawana Lake Road in Putnam Valley, for a report of a violation of an order of protection. Upon arrival, deputies initiated an investigation which revealed the 14-year-old female victim was on line in the gas station's convenience store when Mr. Michael Vallo, Sr., 48, and Mr. Michael Vallo, Jr., 16, both of Putnam Valley, entered the premises. The victim became alarmed and feared for her safety after the subjects proceeded to stand close on line behind her and stared at her. At the time of the incident there was an order of protection, issued by the Town of Putnam Valley Justice Court, prohibiting Mr. Vallo, Jr. from having any contact with the victim.

When the deputies arrived on scene, father and son fled the scene in Mr. Vallo, Sr.'s vehicle. Deputy Osso initiated a traffic stop of the vehicle a short time later on Oscawana Lake Road. During the stop, Mr. Vallo, Sr. verbally threatened the deputy. As a result of the incident, Mr. Vallo, Sr. and Mr. Vallo, Jr. were each charged with Conspiracy in the Sixth Degree, a class A misdemeanor. Deputies also charged Mr. Vallo, Jr., with Criminal Contempt in the Second Degree, a class A misdemeanor. Mr. Vallo, Sr, was charged with Disorderly Conduct, a violation. The defendants were arraigned by Carmel Town Justice Joseph Spofford and remanded to the Putnam County Correctional Facility in lieu of $1,500 bail each. The defendants are scheduled to appear in the Town of Putnam Valley Justice Court at a future date.

The misdemeanor charges are each punishable by up to one year in jail and or a fine of $1,000. The violation is punishable by up to fifteen days in jail and or a fine of $250.
