Putnam Hospital Center Now Offering Digital Mammography

Women who undergo routine mammograms at The PHC Imaging Center now have the latest diagnostic technology available to them with the addition of a new Selenia digital mammography system from Hologic. Digital mammography will allow Putnam Hospital Center to provide its patients with the highest quality of care in the prevention and early detection of breast cancer.

According to Anna Mah, MD, director of women's imaging at The PHC Imaging Center, digital mammography allows the radiologists to view the xray image more closely, zeroing in on suspicious or concerning areas and enabling them to make immediate decisions about additional images. Digital mammography feels identical to conventional screening from a patient's perspective, though women may notice shorter exam times and a reduction in call-backs to obtain additional images.

In conjunction with the digital mammography unit, Dr. Mah noted that The PHC Imaging Center is also offering computer aided detection (CAD), which flags abnormalities to help the radiologist detect early breast cancer. CAD is, in essence a second set of eyes to support and enhance the radiologist's judgment.

The PHC Imaging Center offers patients a full range of diagnostic imaging services fully accredited by the American College of Radiology. Its staff is comprised of board certified radiologists and New York State licensed registered radiology technologists. In addition to digital mammography, the PHC Imaging Center provides high quality, stateof the-art examinations in all major imaging subspecialties, including multi-detector computed tomography (CAT scan), diagnostic imaging, interventional radiology, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), positron emission tomography (PET), bone densitometry, ultrasound and nuclear medicine. For more information about digital mammography or to schedule a digital mammogram or other examination, please call 845-279-5711, Ext. 2428 or 2429, Monday through Saturday.
