Putnam Valley High School Holds Tri-M Inductions
"We, the members of the Putnam Valley High School music program, in order to foster a greater continued interest and a desire for excellence in music performance, to encourage appreciation and awareness in listening to music, to promote wider opportunities for sharing joy through music both within our school and within our community, to advance the spirit of good music and musical knowledge, and to enhance the reputation of our school as a center for musical enrichment accept the honor now granted to us."
With this pledge, nine accomplished student musicians were inducted into the Putnam Valley High School (PVHS) chapter of the Tri-M Music Honor Society on May 9, 2007 at 7:30pm, appropriately held in the PVHS Performing Arts Center, where these young performing artists already spend much of their time.
Chapter Advisors Ryan Odell (PVHS Instrumental Music teacher) and Gerard Micera (PVHS Chorus and Drama teacher) were the masters of ceremonies, while Richard Herlihy, Interim HS Principal, offered welcoming remarks. PVHS senior Jackie Cestaro played a stirring instrumental performance of the Flute Concerto in G major, 2nd mvmt, W.A. Mozart. Outgoing PV Superintendent Gary Tutty was the guest speaker, and Melinda Cestaro provided the student perspective in her remarks.
After the new members were inducted, there was a vocal performance by Alyssa Marsico, Kelly McAuliffe, Kate Brady, and Kyle LaGrutta, of Agnus Dei, by Sonja Poorman.
The 2007 Tri-M inductees are: Melinda Cestaro, Halle Davenport, Jackson Gilman- Forlini, Allie Huyghe, Emily Kenny, Maggie McCarthy, Hannah Schmidt, Alexandra Vucetic, and Jonathan Zupan. Mr. Odell summarized the occasion perfectly: "We are so very proud of the students who have been inducted into Tri-M. They represent the very best of our program and of PVHS in general. It is an absolute honor for us to know and work with these fine individuals and watch them as they reach their musical and academic potentials." PV Superintendent of Schools, Gary Tutty, added: "It was a great evening which was highlighted by student performances. It is always a privilege to honor such well-rounded students who not only achieve a great deal but give back so much to our District."
In the nearly seven years since PVHS first opened its doors, the High School's instrumental music, choral, and drama programs have been some of the most popular and successful in the entire district.
