Kids Can Get a Clue @ Your Library at Desmond Fish This Summer Other workshops include music, story/ puppet theater and crafts
Get a clue @Your Library will be the theme of the Summer Reading Program this year at the Desmond-Fish Library and will include crime scene investigations, geocaching and a Web Treasure Hunt.
As in past years the Library will be rewarding children who keep up their reading skills during the summer. Beginning June 18, children can pick up their summer reading calendars and begin checking off each day they that read or are read to for at least 20 minutes. After ten checks they will receive a prize. This year they will also get to put their name in a drawing for a $30 gift certificate at the Friends' Book and Media sale. Adults will also have the chance to win a gift certificate by reading at least ten books over the summer.
Special programs will include a visit by Federal Marshal Sean McCluskey on July 14 at 2pm who will show children how to dust for fingerprints, question witnesses and solve a crime with clues. On July 21, at 11am Susan Allen will show kids how to use a Global Positioning System to find the coordinates of treasures hidden at the Library.
A Web Treasure Hunt will begin on July 9. Kids who go to www.dfl.highlands.com will find a new clue each week. Get all the clues and come to the Library on August 25 to claim a prize. That day will also feature a book give away and and Ice Cream Party all starting at 11am.
The Library's popular parent child workshop for toddlers will begin on June 18 and June 20 at 10:30 and continue each Monday and Wednesday until July 18. There will be no session on July 4. Karin Pollock from Music Together will visit the Wednesday session on June 20, July 11 and July 18.
Craft hours will begin on July 10 at 4pm and story/puppet theater will begin on July 12 at 4pm. A preschool story hour will be held each Wednesday at 1:30 beginning July 11 and continuing through August 1.
