Flat Iron Gallery Presents Ceramic Vessels and Watercolor Paintings by Sally Aldrich
The Flat Iron Gallery of Peekskill is proud to announce that it will have its fourth solo exhibit of Ridgefield, CT. artist, Sally Aldrich's uniquely designed woodfired ceramic vessels and watercolor paintings, entitled "Creatures of Earth and Sky". An artist's reception will be held Sat. July 7th, from 1-5pm. The show will be on view in the gallery's second floor exhibit space from July 6-29, 2007. Friday evening, July 6th, the gallery will stay open until 8pm for the downtown art district of Peekskill's first Friday of the month celebration.
All of the clay work for this exhibition has been bisque-fired in an electric kiln, then glazed with a combination of two glazes, and wood-fired in a kiln in Kent, Connecticut for almost three days. Aldrich has built impressive vessels that take on female forms like Greek goddesses and have bird features like "owl woman. She has also constructed some amazing reclining cat figures inspired by Sung Dynasty figures. These are complimented by loose, expressively painted watercolors which are in some ways Aldrich's self-portraits. She calls them her "mind landscapes". Themes of the beauties and beasts within us are explored.
The gallery is open Thursday though Sunday from 12- 6pm and by appointment. For more information, call director, Wendie Garber (914) 734- 1894 or look up www flatiron.gpg.com.
