PVES Celebrates its Fifth Annual Read Aloud Day
Guest readers gather in the PVES gym before the Read Aloud begins.

Toni Ann Mazzarisi is on a mission, and its focus is reading. She is the driving force behind the annual PTA-sponsored Putnam Valley Elementary School (PVES) Read Aloud Days. This year, the fifth annual Read Aloud Day was held on Wednesday, May 9. Toni Ann reported, "Our community readers were armed and ready to read. Every year these men and women give up their mornings to share their special stories. A huge thank you to all of them for their support each year; without their time this event would not be possible."

Readers included Phyllis Heidel of the PV Library; Rita Sharples, of Oregon Hardware; Dr. William Zurhellen, of Putnam Valley Pediatrics; Gary Tutty, Superintendent of Schools; Bruce Johnson, Fire Chief for Putnam Valley; Carol Hughes-DiMarco, Putnam Valley Town Clerk; Sherry Howard, of PV Parks & Recreation; Mr. Stephen Edelman and Mr. Angelo Frangella, spouses of the PVES Principal and Assistant Principal; and Dr. Barbara Fuchs, Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction.

Also reading were Board of Education Trustees Mary Maus, Guy Cohen, Frank Reale, and Tina Mackay; Susi Cummings, from the PVHS Performing Arts Center; Robert Walker, PV Rotary Club President; Sam Oliverio, Jr., PVHS Assistant Principal and a Putnam County Legislator; Nick Bellantoni, Director of Buildings & Grounds for the PVCSD; Eileen Royael, community member; Diana Belletieri Costello, a reporter for the Journal News; Lisa Kroohs, Director of the PV Children's Center; Sam Davis, PV Town Supervisor; Joe Rao, local weather man for Channel 12 News; Putnam County Sheriff's Deputy Rich Mansfield; Lee Ann Mazzarisi, PV BOE Student Liaison; Dr. David Fine, PVMS Assistant Principal; and Pete Kuczma, the retiring PV Athletic Director.
