Pat Dugan Honored at Wagner College

John "Pat" Dugan of Garrison was honored as a Wagner College Distinguished Graduate at the school's annual Reunion Weekend awards luncheon on Saturday, June 2. Dugan is the founder, chairman of the board of directors, and director of strategic planning for Charity Navigator, America's premier independent charity evaluator. This online service (www. charitynavigator.org) works to advance a more efficient and responsive philanthropic marketplace by evaluating the financial health of America's largest charities.

Dugan founded Charity Navigator on the simple premise that people are amazingly generous and enjoy helping others, but are not always sure how to go about it.

Dugan noticed that government in the U.S. had cut back on the programs it was able to deliver; in response, charities and non-profits had stepped in to fill the void. As a result, nearly one million charities in this country were providing needed services. Charity Navigator helps charitable givers make intelligent giving decisions by providing information, free of charge, on more than 5,000 charities.

Dugan graduated from Wagner College in 1957 and received an MBA from Boston University in 1964. In 1972, he founded Dugan Communications, a medical advertising agency. The firm later became known as Dugan Farley Communications Associates Inc., which Dugan led as president until 1990.

Dugan was also a founder and president of the Medical Advertising Agency Association from 1983 to 1984. He served on the board of directors of the Pharmaceutical Advertising Council (now known as the Healthcare Marketing Communications Council Inc.) and was its president from 1985 to 1986. He currently serves on the board of the Putnam County Historical Society and the Hudson Valley Hospital Center.

Wagner College is proud to bestow upon Pat Dugan the Distinguished Graduate achievement award.
