Little League Senior Division Extend Streak to Nine
The Philipstown Pirates, the 15- and 16-year old Little Leaguers, have been on a roll during May, extending the winning record, game by game: Here are details of their last last four:
May 9: The Philipstown Pirates, sponsored by Powers and Haar Inc, traveled to Fishkill to play Fishkill's Royal Carting squad. The boys wasted no time putting up six consecutive hits (Campbell, Van Tassel, O'Dell, Calandrillo, Fameghetti, J.J. Dean) driving in 5 runs in the first. Max Tiffany Miller took his third start and threw up a one hitter.
The Pirates struck again in the third inning with 5 more hits by Tiffany- Miller, McCann, Campbell, Van Tassel and O'Dell. Other notables; multiple hits by: Campbell, J.J. Dean, O'Dell, Van Tassel, Tiffany Miller. Final score 11-0.
May 12 at Mayor's Park hosted defending District 17 2006 champions Poughkeepsie South. William Dean took the hill, giving up 4 hits and striking out 5. The boys started slow but with two men on Derek O'Dell clocked a double to left center to tie the game up 2-2. A tough defense and a strong relief effort from Max Tiffany- Miller held off a late rally by a tough Poughkeepsie squad. A career day was had by Christian Callaghan going 2 for 3 with a double and an errorless third base. Final score: Philipstown 3, Poughkeepsie 2.
May 19 visited Fishkill's Town Police (that's their sponsor). The hard-hitting gang is Philipstown toughest rivalry over the last three years. The local boys were up for the fight as they put up 4 runs in the first inning.
Kyle Van Tassel took the mound for a little work while Will Dean came in for long relief, giving up 5 hits and 1 runs. Excellent defensive game by Will Charkowski (catcher). Hot bats included doubles by warning track power JJ Dean and Conor McCann, Mike Fisher reached twice on two solid hits. Final score: Philipstown 11, Fishkill 1
May 20 hosting Poughkeepsie North, JJ Dean took the hill for the first time this year giving up a couple of runs in the first. Derek O'Dell came in long relief, making his first appearance of the year filling in for an injured Dean, gave up no hits in 4 innings.
A Pirate rally in the third included a lead off hit by O'Dell. Will Charkowski's shot to right drove in O'Dell. Conor McCann came through driving a double to deep left center, driving in Calandrillo, and Dean. Final score: Philipstown 9, Poughkeepsie North 4.
