Garrison High School Student Named All-American Lacrosse Player
Thomas Szevin, a senior at James I. O'Neill H.S. in Highland Falls has been named High School All-American by the high school lacrosse coaches in Section Nine. One of two student athletes so designated in 2007 from Section Nine, Tom received this award for his superior play, conduct and onfield achievement during the 2007 lacrosse season. Along with one Garrison women's lacrosse player inducted in 2006, Elizabeth Cannon, Tom is the third Garrison men's lacrosse player to be named High School All-American in lacrosse.
Tom started in the Philipstown Rec. lacrosse program in the 3rd grade, joined P.L.A.Y. (Philipstown Lacrosse Assoc. for Youth) and along with many young men from Philipstown played on the Highlander Lacrosse Club in summer and winter leagues over the years. He made the U-13 Hudson Valley team in 7th grade, continuing his energetic level of play through middle school.
Along with Tom's award, the following local young men from P.L.A.Y. and Philipstown's youth program were recognized by high school lacrosse coaches throughout the Hudson Valley for their outstanding achievement this year:
-from O'Neill High School; Dermot Barber, Will Haskell, First Team All Section; John Szevin, Brian Meese, All- OCIAA.
-from Fordham Prep, Robbie Finnegan, First Team All- League, Catholic High School Athletic Association;
-from Millbrook School , Willie Benjamin, First Team All-League, Northwestern N.E. Secondary School Lacrosse League;
-from Hackley, Simon Lai, First Team All-League, Section One Private Schools.
