Southeast Teen Arrested for Setting Fire to Parked Car
Putnam County Sheriff Donald B. Smith reports the arrest of a 19 year-old Southeast man for allegedly setting a fire, which caused damage to two parked cars.
According to the Sheriff's report, in the early morning hours of Saturday, June 9, 2007, the Brewster Fire Department and Sheriffs deputies were dispatched to a reported car fire at Stonewall Lane, in the Town of Southeast Responding emergency personnel arrived at the scene of a 1999 BMW sedan fully engulfed in flames with another vehicle parked near the BMW which had sustained heat damage.
After extinguishing the blaze, fire officials, members of the Putnam County Fire Investigation Team and the Sheriff's Bureau of Criminal Investigation investigated the cause and origin of the fire. After an extensive investigation, a determination was made that the fire was intentionally set.
As a result of the investigation, and after consultation with the Putnam County District Attorney's Office, an arrest warrant was issued by the Town of Southeast Justice Court. During the afternoon of June 14, 2007, Investigators Christopher Spiconardi and Michael Nalbone arrested 19-year-old Kevin A. Bonamici of Brewster, New York. He was charged with Arson in the Third degree, a class "C" felony and Criminal Mischief in the Fourth Degree, a class "A" misdemeanor. Mr. Bonamici was arraigned in Southeast Justice Court before Justice James Borkowski and released after posting $15,000 bail pending a June 26, 2007 court date.
A conviction of the crime of Arson in the 3rd degree may impose a sentence up to fifteen years in a New York State Correctional Facility. An individual convicted of Criminal Mischief in the 4th Degree may be imprisoned in a county jail for a term not to exceed one year.
