Haldane First Graders Study the Marsh
 | | Children in Mrs. Scrocca's first grade class looking at a marsh creature with Linda Richards |
| Haldane first grade students enjoyed a Hudson River Extravaganza program to enhance their Hudson River and marsh study unit. Linda Richards, of Linda Richards Adventures, and Dan Eiebender, from the Clearwater, presented a program featuring songs, live animals and hands-on participation.
The American eel was one of the children's favorite creatures to study. They discussed the parts of the river creatures and the importance of their camouflage. The students also took part in a macro-invertebrate workshop were the children were introduced to plankton, tadpoles, leeches, water ticks, stone flies and midges. The students had the opportunity to catch them with an eyedropper and use a microscope to project them on a screen.
This exciting unit included a visit to the marsh. This entire learning experience was made possible through the Haldane School Foundation.
