Putnam Valley Organizations Offers a Summer of Fun by Edward Paul Greiff Thea Moeller, Putnam Valley Parks & Rec. Sunset Series Director
In a conversation with Putnam Valley's Sunset Series Director Thea Moeller on Saturday, June 23, 2007 she said, "We are trying something different this year with our Sunset Series. We are trying to partner with as many other organizations as we can to have them participate with us in our Sunset Series summer events."
By doing this they hope to attract a larger audience and make each event just a little bit more interesting. In addition to partnering, Director Moeller said she had met with Putnam Valley Library Director Kathleen McLaughlin and the Lake Peekskill Civic Association to coordinate with each group to eliminate conflicts wherever possible.
The end result of all this planning promises to provide a non-stop summer of parties, entertainment, and fun. It starts on Tuesday July 10 with a Classic Car show and a 50's night concert in the park featuring "The Greyhounds," and culminates on September 15 with Town Day and a fantastic fireworks display. In between these dates there are concerts in the park, dance contests, movies, car shows, teen nights, family camp outs, star parties and more.
In addition, Ann Spoonhour and the Putnam Valley Arts will have an "Art in the Park" display in the Town park's pavilion.
Library Director Kathleen McLaughlin shares her enthusiasm and excitement about the library's summer program that has something for every age group. They are kicking off their Friday Night at the Movies series on June 29 with a top notch film entitled "Breach." This is a superbly-cast, well-acted true story of the greatest breach in the history of America's security; a traitor in the FBI.
Besides movies, the Library will have magicians, puppeteers, kids reading programs and a special Harry Potter event for the new book. And for the serious computer buff the Library is now equipped with wireless Internet service.
Not to be outdone, Agnes Powe and the Lake Peekskill Community Center are putting on community dance nights. They just completed a Fifties night and are working on a Sixties night.
Meanwhile Ragnar Pedersen tells us the Putnam Valley Town day Committee is moving along right on schedule. Volunteers are still needed for the parade and town day itself. Also needed are floats for the parade, artistic displays for art in the park, vendors, sponsors and anyone interested in participating. They will shortly be intensifying their preparations and meeting more frequently.
You may not have noticed but every Wednesday, stating June 13 and running through September 26 there is a Putnam Valley Farmers Market taking place from 3pm to dusk at the Tompkins Corners Methodist Church. You are invited to drive by and indulge.
The community leaders in Putnam Valley have gone out of their way to make sure that if you are not on vacation and looking for something to do there will be something for you; a summer of fun.
