Kimberly Zaleski Named Valedictorian for Haldane High School Class of 2007
Kimberly Zaleski is the Valedictorian for the Haldane High School Class of 2007. She has been an exemplary student throughout her high school career. She will be attending the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University. She will major in flute performance and will be studying with one of the world's leading flute virtuosos, Marina Piccini. After college, Kimberly plans to perform with a professional orchestra and then she hopes to follow in Ms. Piccini's legacy of becoming a flute soloist.
Kimberly was selected to be a member of the Junior Honor Society and the National Honor Society. She participated in the foreign Language Immersion Program and was a member of the International Club. She has earned awards for the highest average in French, Math B, Chemistry and Introduction to Calculus. She was nominated to take part in the Washington Leadership Conference. Kimberly has been on the Principal's List throughout her high school years.
She is a brilliant musician. She was involved in the High School Band and Chorus as well as singing in the cappella group, The Blue Notes. She was selected to perform in the Area-All State Band and Chorus and also for the All-State performances. Kimberly is a graduate of the pre-college division of the Juilliard School. She has been a student of Renee Siebert of the New York Philharmonic. She has performed in master classes with Julius Baker, Gary Shocker and Ransom Williams among others. Kimberly participated in the NYSSMA Festival in grades 9 - 12. She was also involved in the NYSSSA Orchestra Summer Program and BUTI (Boston University Tanglewood Institute).
Ms. Zaleski stated that, "Haldane's supportive faculty and sense of community is what makes the school so special. The friendly faces and beautiful environment set it apart." Kimberly thanks her parents for their support and her brother Terence, for being such a positive role model. She also thanks her teachers at Haldane for all of their guidance over the years.
