PVHS Names Alyssa Marsico Salutatorian for Class of 2007

Putnam Valley High School (PVHS) has named Alyssa Marsico the Salutatorian of the Class of 2007. Alyssa is an active and focused PVHS senior who has always combined strong academics with a wide variety of community and extracurricular interests. She will join Valedictorian Anthony Rush in speaking at the 2007 PVHS commencement exercises

Alyssa is a member of the National Honor Society, the Mu Alpha Theta Math Honor Society, the Spanish Honor Society, and the Tri-M Music Honor Society, of which she is also the Secretary. She participates in the PVHS Concert Chorus, Mixed Choir, Make A Difference Club, and Art Club. In addition to being part of the many Make A Difference Club activities such as the Hurricane Katrina Relief Fundraisers, the annual Veterans' Day Breakfast, Holiday Caroling, Relay for Life, etc., Alyssa has volunteered to provide one-on-one math tutoring at the Putnam Valley Elementary School.

Alyssa is a recipient of the Ciba Specialty Chemicals Foundation 2007 Science Award, a Pride in Putnam Valley Award, and a Presidential Scholarship from the University of New Haven, where she plans to study Forensic Science following her graduation from PVHS in June.

"Ever since I was a little girl I have been fascinated by both science and math, and I knew I would want to study them in college," Alyssa says. "At first, I didn't know exactly what I wanted to do in those fields, however all that changed when I took the Criminalistics elective course that PVHS offers. I fell in love with the subject and knew that I would enjoy doing this in my future- not only because it involves my two favorite subjects, but also because it will allow me to help people by aiding in the detainment of criminals and keeping my community safe- something that I am extremely passionate about."

Veteran PVHS teacher, community volunteer, and Make A Difference Club co-advisor, Linda Cefaloni, said, "Alyssa is a dedicated and committed individual and team player who consistently gives her best effort to whatever event, fundraiser or task. I am confident that her ambitions and dreams will propel her to make outstanding contributions to our community and society, making it a better world for everyone."

Alyssa is the daughter of Kathie and Michael Marsico of Putnam Valley.
