Elizabeth Vardy is Haldane High School Class of 2007 Salutatorian
Elizabeth Vardy is the Haldane Salutatorian for 2007. She will be returning to her native home in Canada to attend Mount Allison College in Brunswick. She received an entrance scholarship and is planning to major in International Relations. In the fall of 2007 Elizabeth will defer her college admission for one year and will work as an assistant teacher at the Garden Road Nursery School in Croton. From January through March she will work in a girls school in Limbe in Cameroon, Africa. From there Elizabeth plans to participate in a program in Costa Rica for two months.
Elizabeth has been on the Principal's List and the Haldane Academic Hall of Fame throughout her high school career. She was a member of the Junior Honor Society and the National Honor Society. Elizabeth was involved in the Literary Magazine in grades 9-12 and was Editor-In-Chief for her junior and senior years. She participated in the Foreign Language Immersion Program and Amnesty International. Elizabeth has received awards for highest average in Global 10 Honors and AP U.S. History. She was the Outstanding Student in Spanish III her sophomore year. She is a talented artist and received awards for drawing and painting and Outstanding Design. Elizabeth was also involved in the Drama Club.
Outside of school Elizabeth was a member of the Foot in Mouth Players Youth Theater in grades 9 -12 and was their president in her junior and senior years. She was a Youth Leader at Powell House Quaker Conference Day. Elizabeth also took private violin lessons in grades 9-12.
Elizabeth states, "I have moved around a lot and gone to many schools. Out of all of them Haldane is my favorite. It has a great sense of community that I will miss when I leave."
