Not Just a Prank To the Editor:
I must say, last week's letters about the so-called "senior prank" did not really present an accurate picture of the incident that occurred. To oversimplify this action as simply the drawing of chalk figures on the sidewalk is simply misleading. Yes, there were chalk outlines, but at least one of the figures included a bullet wound to the temple and a second bullet wound to the heart. A very realistic blood trail streamed from the "wounds" and away from the "body." If you want to see for yourself, go the online to the Journal News archives where a clear picture may be seen. These figures were drawn in an area (the dropoff circle) that would have been fully visible by children as young as 5 when they were brought to school just a few hours later. As a parent, I would not want my children exposed to such a prank on the grounds of their school.
Ultimately, the individuals involved indicated that there was no malicious intent. But what exactly was their intent when they hatched this "prank?" Let's see, we will draw a chalk outline of a dead body on Haldane school grounds, we'll add two fatal bullet wounds, and then we'll mix up a solution that looks just like real blood and add a blood trail leading away from the "victim." This subject matter is simply too dark to be considered a harmless prank. It is too personal to simply wash away with the chalk and the fake blood.
