Howland Library Mural a Community Effort To the Editor:
On June 9, dozens of people came together to install a mural at the Howland Public Library at 313 Main Street in Beacon. The mural is a vivid celebration of the library's past, present and future. The mural is beautiful, as was the installation event.
The mural was funded by contributions from Friends of the Howland Public Library, City of Beacon, and businesses and individuals. A "bookshelf" of donors of funds and materials also will be displayed in the window.
Beacon - formerly Bulldog- Studios and the Beacon City School District, provided a work space for the library mural in the old Beacon High School. The project goal of $7,000 is near, but funds for this public artwork and its upkeep are still needed. Checks should be made out to the Howland Public Library. The library mural took approximately one year from conception to completion and was a real community effort.
But the mural wouldn't have been realized without the generous spirit and talent of muralist Rick Price and the artists and artisans who helped him, or without the commitment of Marcia Frahman, board president, and the support of the library board. We at the Howland Public Library are truly grateful.
