PCHS Family Fun Festival a Success

The Putnam County Historical Society& Foundry School Museum hosted the second annual Family Fun Festival on July 1, 2007. Over 200 adults and children enjoyed a funfilled day of patriotic activities, music, puppetry and food.

Dog on Fleas kicked off the event with a set filled with music from their latest CD, When I Get Little as well as old favorites. Puppeteer Fred Greenspan entertained the crowd with his version of Rip Van Winkle, using the classic Punch puppet as well as performing an old vaudeville favorite, Professor Frederick's Flea Circus. Kids used their imagination to see the little fleas on the high wire, the trapeze and the high dive.

In addition to the programs on the stage, children participated in a variety of hands-onactivities. Eileen Stelljes and Eileen Charbonneau brought the past alive with old-fashioned games and an old-fashioned schoolroom program. The Hudson Valley Materials Exchange made patriotic arts and crafts out of recycled red, white and blue paper and other materials. Parents and children also visited the museum to view the informative exhibitions on Philipstown history.

With all the activities, parents and children worked up an appetite that was sated by a variety of picnic food including cotton candy, hot dogs, Italian ices, and lemonade. Thanks to all the performers and workers who made the Family Festival a success. The Putnam County Historical Society &Foundry School Museum is located at 63 Chestnut Street in Cold Spring. Regular museum hours are 11am-5pm, Wednesday - Sunday. For more information, please call 265- 4010 or check their Web site: pchs-fsm.org.
