Flames Destroy 200-Year Old Home on Rt. 9

| Firefighters from Cold Spring, the North Highlands, and Continental Village were all called to the scene of a fully-engulfed structure fire last Thursday to assist the Garrison Volunteer Fire Company in battling the blaze, which was, according to Garrison Fire Chief Rodney Tudor, too far along by the time the fire department arrived on the scene to save the structure. The fire was reportedly started by a lightning strike.
Mr. Shafran, who was home at the time, told reporters that he had been alerted to the fire by his six-month old puppy "Ranger." Tragically, while Mr. Shafran was able to escape the burning structure, Ranger did not and was found the following day in the wreckage by Mr. Shafran's son.
Ironically, Mr. Shafran is a member of the Garrison Fire Department. The Department is now trying to determine what the Department can do to help its member while he tries to recover from the fire.
