Fireworks Planned for August 4 at Cold Spring's Mayor's Park Donations still needed
Did you yearn for the traditional fireworks at Mayor's Park, usually sponsored by the Cold Spring Fire Company on the Fourth of July? Well your wishes will come true on the Fourth of August when the Cold Spring Fire Company will present their 11th annual block party, including the fireworks show enjoyed by everyone last year.
The day's celebration will start in the afternoon of the 4th when the Western Putnam Economic Development Council will celebrate the 200th anniversary of Robert Fulton's inaugural steamship cruise up the Hudson River.
The "Fulton Steamship Festival," will include demonstrations of steam engines, a tour of the Foundry (which later built steam engines for this growing industry), and at 5:30 a parade down Main Street appropriately named "Blowing off Steam".
After the parade, everyone can head to Mayor's Park for the annual Block Party. The Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary will be serving hot dogs, hamburgers, sausage sandwiches, sodas and beer and the music will be provided by "Neutral-No Brakes." The fireworks show will start about 9pm.
Once again, the Fire Company provides these fireworks free of charge to the community. In order to pay the thousands of dollars needed for the extravaganza, they need your donations for the day.
"Cold Spring Block Party Fireworks" boxes are located at various businesses in the village and patrons can make donations in these boxes. Once again many local businesses are stepping up and have donated up to $1500 for the event. The Cold Spring Fire Company appreciates these donations and hopes to get additional donations from the community at large.
Anyone interested in helping to sponsor the Cold Spring Fire Company's annual block party should contact Tom Rolston at 265-3939.
