Putnam Valley Library Seeks Nominations for Virginia Connolly Award

The Putnam Valley Library is again proud to announce that it is seeking nominations for the annual Virginia Connolly Award for Distinguished Voluntary Public Service.

Each year the members of the Putnam Valley community join the Library to honor Mrs. Virginia Connolly, a past President of the Library Board of Trustees. The Virginia Connolly Award acknowledges a resident of the Town of Putnam Valley who has made an outstanding contribution to enriching the life of our citizens.

The Award was established in 1976 to honor Virginia Connolly, who serves as a model through her unstinting and deep commitment to community service. Her voluntary efforts on behalf of so many in our area will always be the standard against which the volunteerism of others will be measured.

In 2006, the Library Trustees established the Harriet E. Gair Community Spirit Award, to honor a Putnam Valley volunteer who exemplifies a dedication of time and a generosity of spirit to help others in the community. The 2006 recipients of this award were the members of the Putnam Valley High School Make A Difference Club.

The Library Board hopes to hear from you. Your choice of a nominee(s) for either of these awards should be sent to the Putnam Valley Library Board of Trustees no later than Friday, August 17. The Awards will be presented at the Library's 70th Anniversary Gala, which will be held on Sunday, September, 30.

On Saturday morning at 11am there willl be a free interactive workshop, "Memories & Memoirs". If your life experiences are not recorded for your descendents, they will be lost forever. This program will help participants record significant events in their lives. The program will be led by Anne Taub, a Putnam Valley resident for 60 years, who is a retired Professor, Tauro College.

The library is open to serve the residents of the community seven days a week throughout the year. If you have any questions, please call them at 845-528-3242. The Library is located at 30 Oscawana Lake Rd.
