Free Computer Workshops Through Putnam County Office for the Aging
The following are free computer workshops offered at the William Koehler Senior Center in Mahopac:
-Tuesday, July 17 & Monday, Oct. 1: Beginners Workshop -For people with little or no computer knowledge
-Monday, Aug. 6: Planning Your Vacation
-Using the internet: get the best vacation deal: explore air, hotels, organized tours, rental cars
-Thurs., July 12 & Thurs. Oct. 11: Computer Keyboard
-Brush up on keyboard skills; understand the layout and function of Keys
-Thurs. Sept. 13 & Thurs. Nov. 15: Genealogy Seminar
-How to find sources for a genealogy such as the Mormons' libraries and public libraries to put "roots" together
-Mon. Oct. 2: Mail Merge
-Intro to Microsoft Word tables and Mail Merge to make labels
-Wed. Sept. 12 & Wed. Nov. 21: Life Bio "Take Your Place on the Family Tree"
-Learn to write your own story using help of 250 questions; can be confidential or shared with family
-Fri. Sept. 21: Buying a Computer
-Help in buying your first or upgrading your present computer
-Wed. Oct. 17 & Tues. Dec. 18: Basic Computer Security
-Security Maintenance including anti-virus, anti-spy ware and spam filtering; scanning & backing up sensitive data
Note: Also, a special 2-day class will be offered for a small fee: Thursdays, Aug. 2 and 9: Maintaining your Computer's Hard Drive
-Cleaning up hard disk, installing/ removing programs, removing ads and spyware, defragmentation, virus scan, backing up data (for Windows XP users)
