Urgent Need for Rh- Blood Donors Free Barbeque Dinner August 3 Drive at North Highlands Firehouse 2:30-8pm
Rh Negative blood supplies are at a critically low point this summer. Area hospitals are demanding 400 units of blood products every day to meet patient needs and are concerned that they may run short. Those Putnam County residents who have the following blood types are especially needed at the North Highlands Firehouse on Friday August 3 between 2:30 and 8pm:
A Negative blood (5% of the population) can be transfused to 45% of patients.
B negative blood (2% of population) can be transfused to 15% of patients.
O negative blood (6% of population) can be transfused to 100% of patients!
O negative blood is particularly important in trauma and emergency situations when there is not time to determine what blood type a patient is. Rh- blood is preferred for newborn babies who may require transfusions. Finally people who have Rh- blood can only receive blood from other negative types.
No matter what your blood type is you are still needed on August 3. All donors and their families will be treated to a free barbeque dinner starting at 4:30. Before that snacks will be served. All Philipstown donors who gave in either March, at the Our Lady of Loretto Church, or in May at North.Highlands Firehouse are now eligible for the August 3 drive.
