Hudson Highlands Land Trust's 3rd Annual Family Festival Brings Nearly 300 Revelers to Philipstown Park
On June 30th, the Hudson Highlands Land Trust (HHLT) hosted its annual Family Festival - a rollicking, old-fashioned square dance and barbeque in Garrison's Philipstown Park.
Nearly three hundred residents and visitors- including 80 campers for the annual Haldane/Garrison "Sleepover Under the Stars"- turned out for HHLT's Third Annual Family Festival. The perfect weather and ideal location, combined with terrific local food and footstomping music by The Resonators with special guest bluegrass legend John Cohen, made this year's festival and campout a pleasure to participate in for families.
Once again, Turner Construction Company and Pepsi Cola of the Hudson Valley generously sponsored the event, making it possible for the Land Trust to donate 100% of the proceeds to Haldane School Foundation and The Garrison Children's Education Fund to support environmental programs at the area schools. Generous support and assistance was also provided by Blooming Hill Farm, Riverview Restaurant, Fresh Company, Irwin Photography, and the Philipstown Recreation Department.
Special thanks to Seamus Carroll of the Haldane School Foundation, Anne Symmes of The Garrison Children's Education Fund, HHLT board member Matt Shipman, and Debby Dichter and Jackie Gueft - the event organizers, who did a masterful job of ensuring everything ran smoothly. HHLT also thanks the many, many volunteers who came together to make this community event possible.
The Hudson Highlands Land Trust seeks to protect the natural resources, rural character, and scenic beauty of the Hudson Highlands through land conservation, advocacy, environmental analysis, public education, and the promotion of sound, long-term planning. HHLT works closely with landowners, and groups of neighbors, who are interested in preserving their property for future generations.
