First Annual Aery Theatre 20/20 Play Festival Guidelines

The Aery Theatre Company in association with the Philipstown Depot Theatre has extended its submission deadline for the 21st Annual Aery Theatre 20/20 Play Festival. Submissions must now be postmarked not later than Saturday, July 21, 2007. The Festival will be presented at the Philipstown Depot's 67-seat theatre in Garrison Landing, Garrison, September 7-16.

Aery Theatre Company was founded by Patrick J. Lennon in 2006 to develop and produce original dramas written, directed and performed by local artists. The 20/20 Play Festival has been established, with funding from the Putnam Arts Council, to present audiences with short, quality plays from promising new playwrights, while at the same time offering a professional venue for theatre artists. The Philipstown Depot Theatre is a Festival coproducer.

Twenty short plays (20 minutes or less) will be selected from among submissions from all over the area. Five plays are to be presented at each of the first four shows September 7, 8 & 9 (Friday/Saturday evenings; Sunday afternoon/ evening) with two plays chosen from each group to move into the semi-finals on Friday and Saturday (September 14 & 15) of the second weekend. Two shows each will then be chosen from these semi-final performances for the finals on Sunday afternoon, September 16. Cash prizes totaling up to $1000 will be awarded in various categories.

· Playwrights (or their representatives) are responsible for the production of their play including casting, rehearsals, props, etc., with the theatre providing limited sets, lighting and sound equipment and production staff. · Submissions must be typed in play script format and be no more than 20 pages and in a font size no smaller than 12 point. Only plays with a running time of 20 minutes or less will be eligible for prizes. Judging will be by a combination of audience voting and a panel of judges. · Submissions must be postmarked by July 21, 2007 and accompanied by a $10 reading fee check (per script) made out to Patrick J. Lennon. Playwrights whose plays are selected will be notified in late July 2007. Early submissions, however, may receive early notification. · A maximum of two submissions per writer will be accepted. · There will be a mandatory meeting for all playwrights or their representatives in late July, as well as a preproduction meeting for all participating artists in August 2007. · Plays will not be returned without an accompanying SASE. · Submissions should be mailed to Aery Theatre 20/20 Play Festival, c/o Philipstown Depot Theatre, P.O. Box 221, Garrison's Landing, Garrison, NY 10524. Submissions are not accepted by email or fax. · Additional inquiries may be made to plennon122@aol.com and a submission form can by downloaded at www.philipstowndepottheatre.org/ information.
