Putnam Valley Receives $7,500 Greenway Grant to Implement Comprehensive Plan
Mary C. Mangione, Executive Director of the Hudson River Valley Greenway, has announced the approval of a S7,500 Greenway matching grant to the Town of Putnam Valley, Putnam County. The funding will be used for the implementation of the Town's comprehensive plan through zoning and subdivision regulation amendments.
According to Mangione, Putnam Valley faces current development pressures along with environmental constraints presented by the Town's varying topography, which includes wetlands, forests, ridgelines, lakes and streams. In order for the Town's comprehensive plan to be an effective tool for Town decision makers to guide future development and land use, it is critical that current zoning and subdivision regulations be amended to reflect the goals of the Plan.
Mangione stated, "By amending current land use regulations and making them consistent with the Town's new comprehensive plan, Putnam Valley is taking the next step toward implementing their goals for the future of their community. We are proud to be able to help communities in the Hudson River Valley as they progress through the comprehensive planning process, and we applaud Putnam Valley for moving forward with their plan."
"The Town of Putnam Valley is in the process of rewriting its zoning laws" Town of Putnam Valley Supervisor Sam Davis said, "We are very thankful to the Hudson River Valley Greenway for their grant of $7,500 to help us with this vital task. They also helped us with a grant last year for the preparation of our new Comprehensive Plan. This is a wonderful organization which helps municipalities to do very important work in an effort to preserve our magnificent environment, and to make it more 'user friendly."'
The Hudson River Valley Greenway is a New York State agency within the Executive Department, established by the Greenway Act of 1991. Presently, 238 out of the 266 eligible municipalities within the Greenway area have joined the Greenway. It provides technical assistance and small grants for planning, capital projects, and water trail and land-based trails that reinforce the Greenway Criteria.
