Tina Mackay and Guy Cohen Re-Elected President and Vice President of Putnam Valley Board of Education Audits recommended in two departments to increase security by Margaret Sternberg
Dr. Marc Space attended his first public meeting of the Putnam Valley Board of Education on July 12, 2007, when the bulk of both the Reorganization and Business Meetings were devoted to approval of, for the most part, pro forma resolutions.
Trustees Tina Mackay and Guy Cohen were re-elected to their respective positions as President and Vice President of the school board for the third consecutive year.
Among numerous resolutions, Linda Pregiato was appointed to the position of District Clerk for the 2007-8 school year, and Paul Lee to the position of District Treasurer for the same school year. Barbara O'Hare was appointed, at no additional compensation, to the position of Assistant Treasurer, and Jill Figarella was appointed Tax Collector.
Superintendent Dr. Marc Space was appointed Records Access Officer, Assistant Superintendent Dr. Barbara Fuchs as Records Access Officer and Title IX Compliance Officer, Assistant Superintendent Paul Lee as Payroll Certification Officer and Purchasing Agent, and Ingrid Polewaski as Internal Claims Auditor.
The firm of Kuntz, Spagnuolo and Murphy, P.C., was appointed legal counsel for the 2007-08 school year at the general counsel fee of $12,000 per year, all other litigation and labor relations matters to be at the rate of $150.00 per hour.
Dr. William Zurhellen and Dr. Yevgenia Shurp were appointed as school district doctors for the 2007-08 school year, with compensation of health insurance coverage. Dr. Rhonda L. Kaufman was appointed Supervising Dentist, to serve without compensation for the 2007-08 school year.
Commerce Bank, Mahopac National Bank, Citibank, Wachovia, and J.P. Morgan Chase were appointed to serve as depositories and for the purpose of soliciting Certificates of Deposits, Money Market Accounts for the period of July 1, 2007 to June 30, 2008.
The Putnam County News and Recorder, The Journal News and The North County News were designated as the official newspapers for the advertisement of legal notices by the Putnam Valley Central School District for the 2007-08 school year.
In the only piece of business that was not resolution-related, the Board heard a short presentation of the district's audit plan given by Ralph Thomas of ACCUME Partners. The presentation focused on the controls in place by the district to thwart attempts of malfeasance.
Thomas noted that, in terms of safety and security, the Information Technology Department had received the best score among 26 districts, and summed up his presentation by saying the district had done well overall, but recommended that internal audits be done on the Human Resources and Payroll Departments. The Board decided to wait until receiving the audit report from the state prior to taking any action, which was agreeable to Thomas.
The next meeting of the Putnam Valley Board of Education will be Thursday, August 23, at 7pm.
