Putnam County Children's Committee Presents $500 to Putnam CAP

Again this year, the Putnam County Children's Committee presented $500 to Putnam CAP for their annual school supply program. Each year this committee includes in its budget the granting of money to Putnam CAP for funding the many school supplies needed by local children as they begin the new school year. Children's families with limited resources find it difficult to buy needed school items each September. They turn to CAP for help. Not just paper, pencils and erasers are needed, but backpacks, lunch boxes, and gym class sneakers are required. This $500 that was donated by the Children's Committee, along with other donations from the public, will help the children go off to school with needed supplies and a smile of confidence for the new school year.

Now into its ninetieth year, the Putnam County Children's Committee continues to reach out to the county's children with college scholarships, allowances, and birthday gifts as well as holiday money for the county's foster children. It also offers help with a multitude of emergency financial problems that families experience that do not qualify for aid from the Department of Social Services. Medical costs, day care expenses, recreation fees, tutoring fees are some of their grants that help ensure that the local children have a safe and healthy life and promising future.

Support for this program is through the generosity of residents in an annual letter appeal. The all-volunteer committee counts on the community at large for financial assistance and their donations are tax deductible. The committee is eligible to receive corporate matching grants. For further information regarding the committee please call the Committee President Janet Canniff at 845-225-3225.
