American Red Cross Appoints New Assistant Director of Response for Putnam/West Point Disaster Planning and Response Unit
The American Red Cross in Greater New York (ARC/GNY) has appointed Mary Ellen Douglas to the position of assistant director of response for its disaster planning and response unit at the chapter's Putnam/ West Point area office. ARC/ GNY - Putnam/West Point is located at Building 2104, Visitors Center, West Point Hwy. (New South Post Road) in West Point.
Ms. Douglas, originally from The Bronx, resides in Patterson with her husband and two teenage children. She served the American Red Cross in Greater New York as a volunteer for eight years before joining the chapter staff in 2006 as the community development associate for the Rockland County area office.
She began her volunteer service with ARC/GNY as a member of the Putnam County Disaster Action Team (DAT) in 1999. A Red Cross DAT is an immediate response unit that moves out at a moment's notice to provide immediate assistance, clothes and shelter for those affected by fires, floods, building collapses, or power outages. Ms. Douglas has served as a disaster services instructor, teaching Red Cross volunteers how to respond to emergencies in their communities.
