Weekend Lighthouse Tours at Stony Point Battlefield Site

Each weekend through October, the Stony Point Battlefield State Historic Site and the Stony Point Lighthouse invite visitors to tour the oldest lighthouse along the Hudson River. A guide will lead the way up the two ladders to reach the lantern room. Look out of the full-length windows to see one of the most majestic views of the river. Watch boats traveling up and down the river as you learn about the importance of bustling shipping traffic to New York State and the nation's economy in the 19th century. Get up close to the 4th order Fresnel lens and learn about the complex system of glass prisms that aided navigation before the advancement of 20th-century technology. Discover the realities and responsibilities of the often romanticized role of the lighthouse keepers.

Tours are available on Saturday from 10am to 4:30pm and Sunday 12 noon to 4:30pm, weather permitting. Tours are not appropriate for small children. There is a $5 weekend parking fee. No reservation is required.

There will also be a special lighthouse adventure on August 4 at 8pm, with an evening lighthouse lantern tour. This program is offered by advance reservation only. There is a fee of $4 for adults and $3 for seniors and teens; this program is inappropriate for children under 15 years old. Flashlights and bug spray are recommended.

Call the museum office for more information and/or reservations at at 845-786-2521. The office is open from Wednesday to Sunday from 9am-5pm.
