Amanda Chesnut Recognized for Academic Achievement

Amanda (Maggie) Chesnut, daughter of Ann and Richard Chesnut of Lake Peekskill, was named a First Group Scholar and was named to the Dean's List at Smith College for the 2006-07 school year. The Dean's List recognizes those students with grade point averages of 3.333 or above. First Group Scholars are further recognized for their particularly high level of achievement, and they generally represent the top ten percent of the class.

Maggie graduated from Putnam Valley High School in 2006. She is currently volunteer teaching in Cusco, Peru, from June through September as part of the international volunteer program, Angeles que Aguardan, and will resume her studies at Smith in September. In January she will begin three academic quarters at Dartmouth College in Hanover, NH, as part of the Twelve College Exchange program. Smith College is consistently ranked among the nation's best liberal arts colleges. Enrolling 2,800 students from every state and 55 other countries, Smith is the largest undergraduate women's college in the United States.
