Joseph Palumbo
Joseph Palumbo, 75, of Pleasant Valley passed away on Sunday, July 22, 2007 surrounded by his loving family at Lutheran Care Center.
Most recently Mr. Palumbo was employed by the Town of Pleasant Valley as an attendant at the transfer station. He previously was the head custodian and bus driver for the Garrison School System, owned Better "n" New Antique Shop in Garrison and also owned Palumbo and Son Refuse in Garrison.
Born in Poughkeepsie on November 22, 1931, he was the son of Sebastiano and Anna Mangiafico Palumbo. Joseph served in the US Army from 1950-1952. On July 20, 1952 at St. John's Church in Beacon, Joseph married Joan E. Mason. Mrs. Palumbo survives at home.
Joseph was a champion trap shooter having won many titles; loved deer hunting, refurnishing furniture for his antique shop and traveling in his motor home. Joe's kind and giving spirit and contagious smile touched so many people over his lifetime. His love for his family and friends has left a legacy of love that will always be remembered and cherished.
In addition to his wife Joan, he is survived by his daughter, Victoria Spoleti of Marlboro; his son and daughter in law, Joseph and Terry Palumbo of Wappingers Falls; 3 granddaughters, Jennifer Spoleti and her fiancé Danny Tubbs of Marlboro, and Gina and Christina Spoleti also of Marlboro. He was predeceased by his 3 brothers, Sebastian, Frank and Angelo Palumbo.
Visitation will be Wednesday, July 25 from 6-9pm at Allen Funeral Home, 1605 Main St., Pleasant Valley. Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 26 at 10am from the funeral home. Interment will follow in Cold Spring Cemetery.
