PV/C 16-U Baseball Team Seeking Perfect Season
by Bernie Sacco

The Putnam Valley/Cortlandt 16-U team continues its steamroll through the WPBA Summer Baseball tour.

The PV/C team, coached by Joe Orlando, defeated Mahopac 2 at Crane Road Field in Mahopac last Sunday by a score 4-0. That win makes brings their sterling record this season to 17-0.

Matt Cordaro (B.A. 500) got things started in the first inning by belting a solo home run to support winning pitcher Billy McHenry. The team never looked back from there.

Jeremy Whalen scored from third on a ground ball error hit by Dan Kelvas in the second inning and a two run bomb in the fifth inning by Chris Orlando (B.A. 450) gave McHenry all the run support he would need on a day when McHenry pitched a seven- inning shutout. He was at his best while working out of a bases loaded jam with one out in the bottom of the sixth.

If PV/C wins its next two out of three games, they will win the division for the first time. PV/C's upcoming schedule includes a Tuesday (July 24th) tilt at Mayors Park in Cold Spring against PV/C 3 in what promises to be a spirited affair.

PV/C will also see Somers 2 and Shrub Oak, with all three teams aware of what is at stake for PV/C: An undefeated regular season and No.1 seed in the 8-team playoffs set to begin in early August.
