USMA Band's Jazz Knights to Perform with Bassist Lynn Seaton
The United States Military Academy Band's Jazz Knights will present a concert with double bassist Lynn Seaton on Sunday, August 5, 2007 at 7:30pm, at Trophy Point Amphitheatre.
Lynn Seaton has "effectively established his own voice in current jazz music," says Matthew Hughes of the International Society of Bassists Magazine. As a performer, Mr. Seaton has recorded and toured with jazz greats such as Kenny Drew, Jr., John Fedchock, Tim Hagans, Cal Collins, Bobby Shew, George Shearing, Frank Wess and the big bands of Woody Herman and Count Basie.
He has participated in over 100 recording sessions, including the Grammy Award-winning Diane Schuur and The Count Basie Orchestra, the Grammy-nominated Woody Herman 50th Anniversary, and the Grammy-nominated No Nonsense with the John Fedchock New York Big Band. As an educator, he has presented workshops and participated in artist-in-residence programs throughout the United States and Europe. He has been on the faculty of Jamey Aebersold's jazz camps and Clark Terry's Institute of Jazz Studies. He is a tenured Associate Professor in the Jazz Studies Division at the University of North Texas. Mr. Seaton was inducted last year into the Jazz Hall of Fame in his native state of Oklahoma.
The Jazz Knights will perform a number of compositions written by Mr. Seaton and arranged for him to highlight his double bass prowess. The concert will also feature several members of the Jazz Knights performing on compositions from their concert repertoire. Vocalist Sgt. 1st Class Laura Bradley will perform on two compositions.
