Putnam Symphony Orchestra in Search of Qualified Musicians
The Putnam Symphony Orchestra will open its 31st season with a performance on Sunday, November 18 at 3pm. The performance will take place at the Brewster High School on Foggintown Road off of Farm to Market Road, approximately one half mile north of Route 312. Scheduled repertoire for this concert includes English Folk Song Suite by Vaughan Williams, Jolly Robbers Overture by Suppe, Malcolm Arnold's Four Scottish Dances, Symphonic Dances, Op. 64 by Edvard Grieg, selections from Bizet's Carmen Suites No. 1 and No. 2, Elgar's Pomp and Circumstance No. 4, and The Barber of Seville Overture by Rossini.
The Putnam Symphony Orchestra is a community orchestra comprised of musicians from the greater Brewster-Carmel area and surrounding communities. Students, professionals, and amateurs make up the musician roster, as they did when the orchestra first performed in 1977. The diversity in talent and backgrounds of the individual members of the orchestra provides an opportunity for each to learn from the other as they work together and perform on stage. Christine Smith will conduct the orchestra for the fall performance. Miss Smith, a professional flutist, holds a BFA Degree from SUNY at Stonybrook. She is a 1981 graduate of the Juilliard School of Music, Pre-College Division, and she holds a Master Degree in Education. She regularly performs as a soloist with the Doansburg Chamber Ensemble, and has been conducting the Putnam Symphony Orchestra since 1998.
The Putnam Symphony Orchestra is currently developing its musician roster for this concert and is in search of qualified musicians who would like to join the orchestra. All qualified musicians with an interest in performance are invited to join the orchestra, and should contact the conductor at (845) 228-4167 to discuss opportunities.
