Putnam Valley Supervisor Sam Davis Announces Candidacy for Democratic Ticket in November

PV Supervisor Same Davis has announced that he is a candidate in the Democratic Primary on September 18, 2007 for reelection to the Supervisor position. His announcement is as follows:

"At the urging of his supporters, Democrat Sam Davis will run again for Town Supervisor. Sam is committed to keeping his promises, and continuing the mission for which he was elected in 2005. He is endorsed by the Putnam Valley Democratic Committee.

"Sam stands strong to protect our Town: safeguard our water, control taxes and limit development. He is working to keep our community rural and affordable for all our residents. Sam has never wavered from the platform on which you elected him.

" 'Sam is a great Democrat, and important for the region,' says Peekskill Democratic Committee Chair, Darren Rigger. 'He has been working for regional solutions including stopping overdevelopment and lowering property taxes. He is the clear choice for Supervisor.' Sam is also endorsed by Westchester County Legislator, Mike Kaplowitz.

"The platform on which Supervisor Davis ran and will continue to move forward may be seen at pvdems.com. If you have questions, please call 845-284-2369 or e-mail, info@pvdems.com. Sam is the only candidate who has kept his promises, and worked for the issues that matter to you.

"About 65-80% of your property tax bill goes to funding Putnam Valley's schools. Sam has been working tirelessly to get the State to change how our schools are financed so that your property taxes stop spiraling out of control. He has been a strong voice at the state level for that change. He meets regularly with your state representatives in Albany and with other Town and County elected officials, constantly lobbying for state-wide change of school funding. His hard work, along with the school tax reform movement, is paying off. Homeowners received a rebate check last year from the STAR program. This year property taxes have been reduced by $1.3 billion, and 60% of New Yorkers will see benefits within the next year.

"Sam is your strong advocate against developers who burden you with the bill for providing services while they make a profit. The Emerald Ridge issue clearly defines Supervisor Davis' commitment to the public welfare, and the difference between him and the other candidates for Supervisor. Watch the July 18, 2007 Town Board meeting. The issues of an affordable community, un-buildable land, steep slopes, enforcing our laws and keeping the public informed are clear. While Sam strongly supports open space acquisition to control tax increases, his opposition actually managed to work out a deal that will burden the taxpayers.

"Sam has initiated and worked collaboratively on a thorough Comprehensive Plan for the future of the Town that reflects the desires of the community, and has obtained $32,500 in grants to help pay for it.

"Sam is working hard right now on an update of the Town's Zoning Code and has obtained $7,500 in grants to help pay for it.

"His supporters have expressed their amazement at his ability to withstand the barrage of politically motivated attacks since his first day in office. Sam's strength and determination were vital to navigate through the obstacles, opening the path to change, community stability, and progress.

"Our supervisor said, 'There are many who want to maintain the status quo. It has not been easy, but I have achieved significant success in pushing through political bitterness to move the Democratic platform forward. A lot has been accomplished, but we have major work still to be done, including seeing through the Town's new Comprehensive Plan and Zoning Code.

"Democrats - Vote for Sam on September 18."
