Come Home Early, Carpool and Vote Yes for Fire House Dear Editor:
Within a recent four-day span, my husband spent over 12 hours at car accidents and fire scenes. Consequently, he missed 4 hours of work, one dinner, half a night's sleep and breakfast with our 16 houseguests the day after high school graduation. His volunteerism is a personal choice and brings great self satisfaction, which makes it worth the considerable sacrifice and risk. His commitment has always been supported by our family, his employees and this community.
On Tuesday August 14, a modified proposal will be brought for a public vote in the North Highlands Fire District. It has been prepared by a committee of your fellow taxpayers and respected professionals. There is no agenda other than to protect you by providing you with a geographically close fire department, full of well-trained, healthy firefighters who have the equipment to best ensure their safety.
I wholeheartedly believe this community resoundingly supports their friends and neighbors who are the volunteers of the fire department. So, do what it takes to make this a priority. Come home early that day. Remind your neighbors, carpool. Are all the 18 year olds you know registered to vote? The volunteers come to you day or night any time and every time you need, no matter what they have to leave to do it. Now let's do our part in return.
