Putnam Panther Midgets Raise Competitive Level

The Putnam Panther Midgets attempted to raise their game by raising the level of competition they played this past weekend in Waterville Valley, NH. Throughout the tournament, Putnam played the best New England had to offer, including many players playing their final tournament before they begin their college careers.

Each game offered new challenges, from the intense stick handling skills that Team USA possessed (Team USA had just come back from the Friendship Games in Sweden, where they defeated the Czech Republic), to the bone crushing hits if the New England Stars, to the speed of the New Hampshire Avalanche. Putnam improved their own level of play with each period, receiving the praises of opposing coaches and players, most of whom were 2 to 3 years older than our boys.

Outstanding efforts were put forth by all, with Jesse Barone of Brewster, Pat Medeo of South Salem, and Daniel Massarini of Mountain Dale leading the charge. Several of our players played through injury, including Chris Kelly of Mahopac, Benjamin Massarini of Mountain Dale, and Danny Schwartz of North Salem. Every one of the Panthers showed the heart of a lion. The goalies, Kevin Canedo of Mahopac and Matt Sandler of Sussex, NJ, had some fantastic saves and got much needed work, as did all of the players.

The tournament was a tremendous step in getting ready for the upcoming season in the Hudson Valley League. A limited number of player spots are still available, and interested players should contact Heather Ayala at (845) 473-9860. The Putnam Panther Midgets practice and play out of Danbury Ice Arena, in Danbury CT.
